heyy asb, cps here!
we released our homecoming highlight reel a couple of weeks back during homeroom
what went well:

- got a lot of views
- captured the nostalgia seniors wanted
- good overall feedback about editing, background music, hype, etc (thank you tech!!)
what we learned:
- better communication
- most homeroom teachers didn't play the video for their class- they just linked it in the slides
- tech did a great job w editing (thank you thank you!!)
- students like shorter videos
- need more promo
let us know your feedback:))

Hi Cps
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the homecoming highlight reel, and I thought that it definitely served its purpose in remembering past homecomings and capturing some nostalgia. Here are some thoughts I had while watching
- the beginning of the video was very interesting because you could see the differences between what they did back then versus now.
- the middle section was a bit long and could have made people click away since it wasn't their class in the videos.
- The chronological order of the videos was a little confusing
- the ending was pretty clever and funny
Great job cps, I was pleasantly surprised at how well it was edited and definitely brought back some fun memories!!

hi hi CPs,
ReplyDeletemy homeroom teacher actually didn't show the video– she linked it in the chat like you guys said. but i went to watch it just now and i really enjoyed it! i think it accomplished what you intended it to– a hype highlight reel for past homecomings. the editing was fire as well.
as you mentioned, maybe next time specify what you want the homeroom teachers to do with the video. in addition, i agree that you might've needed more advertisement. i remember graphics and blurbs, but more push wouldve generated more excitement for this very exciting video.
great vid again!

hi cps!
ReplyDeletethe homecoming highlight reel was a really cute video, I think it's def something that can be done in the future (like maybe every 4 years). but, i also had the same issue in my homeroom where my teacher didn't actually show the video, and just linked it, so maybe instead you could promote the video individually or maybe live premiere the video. i think in the future it would be kind of cool to maybe add more elements to the video, like making clips of the behind the scenes that was shot by students (dance/skit practices, decs, etc.) and maybe commentary by students/teachers on their favorite moments/performances. either way it was a really nice video great job!

Hey CPs!
ReplyDeleteI just watched the video again, and I really enjoyed seeing the Homecomings that Lynbrook put on years ago and comparing them to today! I do agree that the middle part of the video was slightly long and there was a possibility of losing focus, but the video overall was super amazing and I really enjoyed the editing!
As for promotion and distribution, in addition to communicating with Homeroom teachers, it might also be a good idea to promote + directly IgTV it (or some other way of distribution, like Katie mentioned premiering it) just to increase the amount of people who can see it. Also, you could consider incorporating a condensed version/trailer(?) into the PR video as another idea for people to watch.
Finally, I don't know if this matches the idea that you guys were going for, but maybe we could ask graduating seniors about their favorite Homecoming memories and somehow weave it into the video if we want to do this in the future? Overall, awesome job!

hi cps!
ReplyDeleteworking on this video was a lot of fun! i hope we can definitely do a similar project in the future, and multiple people told me that they thought the video was well done. In the future, we could consider doing a shorter video because in my experience, students don't have very long attention spans. i liked how you included editing instructions in your plan rather than having tech do all of the nitty gritty work, but still allowed enough creative freedom for the editors. in the future, i think it would be better to collaborate directly with tech to create a filming/editing plan as they probably have more experience with how videos should look.
other than that, great job!
Suanna
hellooo cps,
ReplyDeletegreat job on the hoco recap video! i think it was a really great way to boost hoco morale for next year and hopefully give the freshmen a bit of insight as to what homecoming is like during a normal year at Lynbrook. similarly to what everyone has already mentioned, i think the issue with the middle section is that most of us don't know anyone who was performing during those years, so shortening those clips and making the clips of students from current years longer would be helpful for retaining student engagement.
something else that could be considered is going backwards in order, and starting with the most recent homecoming clips and then putting older clips.
overall, great video! definitely excited for homecoming next year :))
Yoo whats up cps!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say great job on the video! I thought it was a lot of fun watching the differences between Homecoming in the early 2000s versus the Homecomings we have now. I think the music choice was good and it really gave you this nostalgic feeling about Homecoming. Luckily, my homeroom teachers showed it in class but I think in the future we can always put up videos on IGTV if that is an available option (also more promo for the vid as well). I also had an idea about perhaps doing a yearly recap of the behind the scenes footage for Homecoming, filming some of the memories and progress each class makes throughout the months leading up to October. I believe it can be a fun way for students to look back on Homecoming and also a great resource for people to see what really goes into the making of a Lynbrook Homecoming. Overall, congrats on a great video!!

hey cps!!
ReplyDeletehoco highlight reel was the perfect balance between hype and nostalgic, and i loved how there seemed to be a little something for everyone :)) my only note is that in the future it might be worth it to post a reel or an igtv promoting the highlight reel/as a preview/or just posting the whole video on platforms like facebook and instagram that students might access more frequently to reach the largest audience possible since many teachers didn't show the video in class.
great job overall!

Hi Cps,
ReplyDeleteMy homeroom sent the link to the video in the chat. I saw that there was a lot of good hype in the video and I love the way it was produced/edited to portray this. I think this should be done more regularly for the senior classes. I think it should be stressed more for the teachers to show it in homeroom rather than just to send a link.

hey cps!!
ReplyDeletesuper cute idea and I think a lot of students got hit HARD with some super solid hoco memories after they saw this video! the collaborative vision between cps and tech make this turn out really well put together!
the biggest thing which is something that just happened and couldn't be foreseen was the weird homeroom schedule that day that messed up the showing of the video, maybe it should have been "forced" in each class or have had more promo so people know to check it out after release (but it was 900+ views rn, so not too big of an issue)
overall p solid stuff! good work!

hi cps!!
ReplyDeleteSo first off, good job!! The reel very much brought back a lot of nostalgic memories and reminded me so much about why I loved hoco! First off, I thought that the older clips we had were SUPER cool and if you guys could find more of those to do one next year that could be very nice since we tend to see the same videos over and over of hoco! I also def think you guys should add more behind the scenes videos if you can, since we keep playing the same videos of our past hocos over and over again. Overall though, it was very entertaining to watch and reminisce!

hi cps!!
ReplyDeletefirst off congrats on a successful project! I agree that it captured a lot of the nostalgic vibes that the senior class was going for, and led to an overall super successful project! I think that the biggest issue was the lack of advertising, but I think that for next year, as long as that's something that's prioritized in the project plan, and emphasized in the planning process, you should be alright!
overall amazing video, and i'm excited to (hopefully) edit together full homecoming skits next year!!
hey class prezzes
ReplyDeleteSuper cool idea! Homecoming is one of Lynbrook student's fondest memories and we all definitely were hit with some major nostalgia. Especially with the freshman class not knowing what homecoming is like, it was a great idea to help them live this experience out virtually. I think that the reel's release could have been built and hyped up a little more, because the excitement definitely would have been there. To add some personal touch to it there also could have been some interviews with current and past students who were involved with homecoming to hear about their favorite memories and experiences. Great execution overall!!

waddup presidentes,
ReplyDeleteI gotta say the homecoming highlight reel was one of my favorite videos/events this year. It was really cool experience being able to see homecoming from throughout the years and I think it did a great job of showing underclassmen what homecoming is about and to build excitement for it next year. One thing I will say though is that as a senior it was a little tough watching through it. It kind of reminded me of what I missed out in my final year of high school so I think it would have been really awesome to have had a dedicated section in the video for senior or some kind of parting message for the graduating class. Other than that, I thought the video was great. Keep up the good work!
hi presidents!
ReplyDeleteThe homecoming highlight reel was super fun for Suanna and I to edit. I think it was really important to release a video like this this year to remind the student body of the school spirit we had and the good times that we should look forward to when we get to have homecomings and rallies in person again. I really love the idea of interviewing past homecoming participants to get an insider's view of the homecoming experience! I think this would encourage students to participate in homecoming more, because some students hold back from participating when they only see the performance instead of the entire process.
