Virtual Lip Dub

 Heyyy ASB!!

After multiple weeks of anticipation and waiting, Lynbrook's Virtual Lip Dub is finally out; released on 5/8!! Thank you to all of you and your friends who participated and/or watched the video! If this is what a virtual Lip Dub looks like now, We can't wait for an inperson one in the future!

Some things that went well:

- many people enjoyed it!!

- 700+ views & 30+ likes in less than 24 hours

- many participating groups, staff and students enjoyed the process of making their zoom clip and coming up with ideas

- able to show some of the new campus + released a final video after 4 years

Some things that didn't go so well:

- YouTube processing delay =  1 day push back 5/7->5/8

- late submissions/missing submissions from signups = 1 week push back 4/30->5/7

- mask restriction caused a HUGE plan shift very late into the process

- team structure shift + disorganized at the beginning

What we learned:

- have more sign ups than what you use + make sure they understand binding is binding

- project structure needs to be set in advance

- communication with other groups about your idea and within asb to make sure work is done correctly and on time is key

- making sure each person is accountable for their tasks so the overall project is successful and having the co-leads create a balance system

Cheers,

Tech, Clink, Spirit

  1. hey lip dub team!

great job with virtual lip dub this year, it was awesome to see the tradition continue despite all of the covid restrictions and last minute changes that were made to the project. huge kudos to pranav as well for editing the video, there were some really awesome shots and i definitely noticed some of the transitions that were implemented between groups, which i can only imagine how difficult it must have been to coordinate that with the involved organizations virtually this year.

i watched it with my sister, and the only comment that she had was that some of the music transitions were a little bit awkward. i know it takes a while to get clean transitions between songs, especially if they don’t sound super similar, but maybe for future lip dups it would be good to set aside extra time to make the audio transition as well as the visual shots.

overall, lipdub turned out great and i loved watching it! looking forward to seeing it again in the future :)

  2. hi lip dub team!
first of all i'd like to say that i absolutely loved this years lip dub! IT WAS REALLY GOOD and a bunch of my friends texted me and told me they enjoyed it! i know that your plan changed quite a bit from doing in person to virtual and hybrid but you guys really pulled it off :)

something that i've realized as a clink commissioner is that contacting club advisors usually gets things done. all of a sudden when you include the advisor in the process, the officers are more inclined to get things done so advisors are a great option when you havent gotten a submission just yet.

i think the lip dub team handled the yt issues really well! technology can be wack sometimes so big shoutout to pranav for doing w all that and finding a solution real quick. overall, lipdub was awesome and even though this was my lipdub for this yr im very excited to see future lipdubs!

  3. CHRIS PRANAV AND JUSTIN:

Great job! You guys put so much effort into this and the last-minute re-plans and time spent filming hasn't gone unnoticed.

A few things for 4 YEARS FROM NOW:
    - the transitions were super well though-out and I think some of the club re-filming could be avoided by finalizing script/transitions and maybe sending that script out to recording clubs so that they understand how their parts fit-in with the larger video
    - I echo Esha's thoughts on cc'ing advisors to get more submissions on time
    - Consider moving the release date in the future to end of May so we can build hype for a little longer + give's tech lead longer to edit

YOU GUYS DID AN AMAZING JOB OVERALL. thanks for all ur hard work :)

  4. hey lip dub team,

great job!! the video was so fun to both watch and film for. im glad its getting the hype it deserves so soon after it was released.

    some comments:
    - the parts where tech filmed the viking on campus and in the car trunk were SO well thought out, executed, and integrated. frfr those transitions were my favorite parts
    - almost everyone who filmed for the video had some fun gag or prop or choreography that related to their club. however, there were a few clubs who just mouthed the words and we couldnt tell what club they represented. (see 4:38, also 1:50– choreography but no club distinction!) for next time, having REQUIRED creative club distinctions in the instructional email would help.

again, the video was so good!

  5. hi lip dub team! considering the circumstances, i think that you guys did a really great job, and i'm glad that you decided to continue this tradition!! i really liked the bit with the viking (which i thought was super creative) as well as all the transitions and drone shots. however, i thought that the video was a bit long, and i know that you guys had some trouble with sign-ups in the beginning, so maybe just decreasing the amount of people featured/songs used could help. i think it also could've been nice to have a little caption or tag with the name of the club/group so that we know who they actually are because usually they get to hold signs. overall though, i thought that it was SO well thought-out and i really loved it!!

  6. heya!

lip dub was such a cute idea and it was so fun to participate in / watch!! i love how many groups of students we were able to feature, as well as the cinematic intro and the fact that we had a preview on instagram before the video was released.

my one note about the preview would be that next time i think it could be good to have like,,, some clips or flashing images of the actual students + content of the lip dub video instead of just the overhead shot because i think it might have been a little confusing for people who might not be familiar with lip dubs as a concept.

other than that, great job, and i can't wait to see more events like this from you guys in the future!!

  7. hi!!!

GREAT job on lip dub!! I think it was really amazing to see all the groups around campus and honestly put together so well for something that had to happen online. I was definitely super impressed and I know a lot of clubs were posting on instagram showing off their section of the lip dub, so it def added to school spirit!!

My only improvement would be to try to keep to the schedule as much as possible so that we don't have to delay, but honestly I thought the YouTube live kept the anticipation and excitement going and really added to the event!

  8. Hey Lip Dub Team!

The lip dub was absolutely amazing, and you guys did such a fantastic job with the extensive production! I really loved the editing, a lot of the clips were super creative and interesting to watch, and I think a lot of people had fun both producing and seeming themselves in this piece of Lynbrook history!

The only thing I have in terms of improvements, I thought that the transitions between some of the songs was a little abrupt were others were really seamless/unnoticeable. Maybe you could consider using longer sections of each song, meaning that less transitions are required? In addition, I agree with Esha that contacting advisors could be super helpful. Overall, the video was amazing!

  9. hi lipdub team!!

good job with this years lipdub!!! i know its a very rare event as it happens once every four years, and given the special circumstances this year i think y'all did a good job! the drone footage was good because it was a good way to show off campus if students haven't had a chance to see that yet. i liked how a lot of groups did cute things like changing backgrounds, sunglasses/accessories, etc. if we ever do some kind of zoom lipdub or club feature, it would be good to encourage ALL of the clubs to have some knd of interesting background/prop choreography. it really sucks that youtube didn't cooperate and it did not get released on time, but that was out of your control and that is totally ok.

    thats all,

    suanna

  10. Hey Lip dub team!

I really enjoyed the entire video! In my opinion it was even better than the in person video from a few years ago, the transitions and the mini skits in between in each club/teams dubs were on point, and the editing was insanely good!

I think the only minor flaw was in the entire signup/filming process. I feel that it was a little rushed and deadlines were not emphasized enough to all club/sports members. Other than that though huge props to Tech, Clink, and Spirit for doing such a great job especially in such a challenging virtual environment.

  11. hiii!

First of all, amazing job!! The lip dub was so much fun to watch, and I really love how it featured so many different groups on campus. I think reaching out to clubs was a really good idea since clubs sort of represent the passions of each student, so through lip dub, we were also able to see who was a part of / passionate about what.

Just a minor improvement for the future: I think it would be nice to give some examples on what students could do, like use virtual backgrounds or choreography, since some people just mouthed the words and nothing else, and while that's totally okay, they might have liked to do something a little extra, but just didn't know they could at the time. Otherwise, great job- this was such an awesome event!

  12. hi lip dub team!

the video was really enjoyable to watch, i think it's a great video to showcase the different groups of campus. I think one thing that could be improved is making the signup time a little bit longer and promoting it more, and maybe also potentially adding a section for people who aren't necessarily in clubs but still want to participate. I also think that maybe they're could've been more specific instructions for filming, like making sure the lighting is good and having someone play the sound externally rather than through zoom to prevent lag. otherwise it was a really great video great work!

  13. hi!!
The video was done really well this year considering the circumstances and restrictions! the transitions were really creative and well done. I think it was also really good that there were a lot of clips on campus, showing off the gym, quad, pool and more. Most freshmen have never even experienced Lynbrook in person so they got to see a lot of the campus through the video. I think one things to work on was the sign up process, because it was a little bit disorganized and the deadlines were unclear. Part of this could be due to people not being willing to sign up, but for the future, sign-ups could be more concrete and instructions (ex. about sign ups being binding) could be made much clearer from the beginning. Also, some clubs and sports teams had zoom backgrounds identifying their group/club, but a lot them didn't and it was unclear who the students were representing. Next time, the name of which club/sports team/ student group could be edited on the screen to make it clearer.
Overall, it was a really good video and I really enjoyed watching it!! :)

  14. hey lip dub team!

congrats on a successful lip dub through the weirdest circumstances ever! y'all found an interesting and still enjoyable way to put together a lip dub, and it turned out amazing :))

It's hard to say that you could've done anything different to prevent the release dates being pushed back, but I think maybe taking a more conservative approach from the beginning would've served you best, due to the fact that there was a small chance it was going to be in person in the first place.

that being said, the intro, drone shots, and the production as a whole was great, so you should be proud of your work!1

  15. HI LIP DUB LEADS!!
huge congratulations on running this year's lip dub!! keeping up that four year streak even virtually is so impressive. I really loved watching it and I'm glad you guys got the commissions to be a part of it looking back. I don't have a lot of advice, but here's a couple of things:
    - having captions of the clubs/people on screen might have been nice, just for viewers to see the breadth of how many people were part of this project
    - I think the video could have been a little shorter, especially if you were struggling to get people to be part of it, but I still enjoyed the whole duration of it
    - since we knew this was a lip dub year, it would have been cool if we let clubs in on it since the second ICC meeting so it wouldn't seem as abrupt maybe

overall though, I thought it was incredible and that y'all did a great great job

  16. Whats up!!

First of I think it was awesome that you guys pulled off a virtual lip dub, which presented many unique challenges compared to an in-person one. It came out great! One thing for the future would definitely be including on-screen text to say what group/club/team is on screen at the moment, because otherwise it is hard to tell sometimes. Hopefully there won't be a virtual lip dub again, but if there is another thing would be to give some guidance to participants on how to ensure that everyones lips are synced because audio lag seemed apparent in some videos. The editing, use of filming techniques, and the small details were all amazing!

  17. HEY GUYS!

First things first, great job on bringing back LipDub to Lynbrook! I know that this was a momentous task so kudos to you guys for grinding it out and executing it so well. I realize it was a lot more difficult to work around mask restrictions but after watching some other online lip dubs on youtube it really shows how Lynbrook is at another level with our productions. Some things that I think that can help for audiences is organizing the script and video so that each group is somewhat in the same group. For example, I recall seeing the French club on the screen followed shortly by the field hockey team. By grouping the clubs/organizations I think you guys could solve some confusion people may have watching the video! Other than that, great job!

  18. hi!!

CONGRATS on making the lip dub possible! it was great that sooo many student organizations were able to come together to make this video possible, and that everyone had their own individual part in the video! one thing that could have been improved was the overall communication--after sign ups it got kind of confusing, and there wasn't much communication overall. i also agree with clustering similar groups together, it really showcases the variety in organizations that we have! about the timeline, make sure to have enough "padding" to get all the clips in, especially since so many clubs sent in the videos late. im excited for what the lip dub will look like in the future!

  19. heyy lip dub team!!

this year's lip dub was so cool even though it was online! great job with collecting submissions from all the different groups around campus. i think the enthusiasm was definitely a bit low compared to past lip dubs, but that comes with it being all online. it was discussed in class about not being able to do it in person being we wouldn't be lip dubbing the song if we're wearing masks, however i do think a large part of it is hand motions and facial expressions (as much as we can show through a mask) so it's definitely an idea that could've been thought out a bit more. i feel like enthusiasm would've been much more if filming was in-person versus a Zoom recording, and you would have control over the time of filming, so delays could be avoided.

overall, i think you guys did such an amazing job even through it being online, and i really enjoyed watching the final product!!

  20. Awesome job on the Lip Dub video! It's super exciting to see that this once-in-four years event happened this year (and didn't skip the Class of 2021 haha.) For a virtual event that was recorded by each individual/group separately, I'd say the video went amazingly well. I think the Valkyries and Science Olympiad Club were accidentally left out of the credits though, so maybe we need a bit more time to proofread in class in the future. I also agree with the other comments that perhaps organizing songs by similar groups may produce more cohesiveness. Overall great job!

  21. hi lipdub team!

This video was so impressive—you guys did such a good job working around all of the COVID restrictions and incorporating both zoom clips and in person clips. There were so many little details and creative ideas weaved into the video and you really made the most out of this year's circumstances! I love that each group wore shirts that represented their club/sport/organization. The transitions were also super cool. In the next video, maintain the wide range of clubs/sports/organizations in the video, but organize them by similar groups, as others have mentioned.
